A man arrested in connection to what has been called the largest methamphetamine lab an experienced Health Canada chemist has ever seen is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing next summer. Ben Shirazi was arrested in September after Abbotsford Police discovered a large methamphetamine lab on Sept. 23 at a property in the 2500-block of Lefeuvre Road. Police say they seized approximately $2.5 million worth of methamphetamine from the property. As well, the operation had the ability to manufacture more than 12 kilograms of methamphetamine every 48 hours, which translates into a single dosage street value of up to $1.2 million, police say. Shirazi is charged with unlawful production of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. During a court appearance on Thursday, a two-day preliminary hearing was scheduled. It is set to begin July 19, 2006.
