MARIJUANA - Ottawa July 11, 2007 - Canada 5th in world marijuana usage reflects poor leadership

Canada fifth worldwide using marijuana

For immediate release                                                                 July 11, 2007

“Being fifth world wide when it comes to marijuana usage is a result of the lack of a prevention message from governments and the unchallenged rhetoric of drug legalization advocates ” says Randy White President of the Drug Prevention Network of Canada

“About 16.8 percent of Canadians ages 15 to 64 light up compared to 12.6 percent of Americans in the same age bracket, according to the 2007 United Nations World Drug Report. Canada’s usage is about four times the worldwide average of 3.8 percent.” says White

“We need leadership in this country that will spend millions on messaging and not on programs designed to keep people on drugs. It is disturbing that all parties in the House of Commons and Provincial Legislatures can’t come to a common understanding of the need for action” Says White.
