ENFORCEMENT - Cochrane Times (Alberta) 01.18.2006 Million Dollar Cocaine Bust

Cochrane Times — A simple traffic collision investigation resulted in a $1 million cocaine seizure in the early morning hours of Jan. 16 near Springbank.
At 6 a.m. Cochrane RCMP responded to a collision involving two vehicles in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 1, two kilometres west of the Springbank Rd. exit.
“As the vehicles were being secured to get off the highway, an inventory of the vehicles was done and the items were found,” said Cpl. Roger Waidson. “It was a normal traffic call that turned out to be a big deal.”
Found in the vehicle were 10 kilograms of cocaine, worth an estimated street value of $1 million.
An Edmonton man, 23-year-old Rory Christopher Walsh, has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of a controlled substance with the purpose of trafficking.
Waidson said it is unknown where Walsh was taking the drugs, but he was coming from Vancouver.
“Nobody was hurt in the collision, and road conditions weren’t a factor, it was the fellow who caused it,” Waidson said.
Walsh was the only one in the vehicle.
Walsh will appear in Cochrane provincial court in February
