DRUG PREVENTION NETWORK OF CANADA TABLES REPORT “THE HIJACKING OF DRUG POLICY IN CANADA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 05, 2006
“Before Canada gets too far astray from the proven concepts of treatment, rehabilitation and enforcement of Drug addiction, the Drug Prevention Network of Canada is tabling ”The Hijacking of Drug Policy in Canada – Implications and a Call to Action” authored by Dr. Colin Mangham, PhD” says Randy White President of the Drug Prevention Network.
“We are concerned that the full story is not being told by those who want to maintain addicts on their habit and that politicians are not getting the facts fairly presented from those who want to enhance treatment, prevention and enforcement. Dr. Mangham’s expose, tabled with the DPNC on May 4th. Accurately reflects the concerns of many Canadians and we hope to bring those concerns to all politicians at all levels of government.” Says white
Dr. Mangham is a well respected research and program professional with 27 years of experience in substance abuse prevention in Canada. He says “Basically what we are seeing is the result of years of gradual policy change, with little public knowledge and less involvement, away from demand and supply reduction and toward harm reduction – in other words, away from the idea of preventing drug use, getting people off of drugs and making it easier for people to get off of drugs removing them from the environment and making it harder to get drugs, and toward facilitating drug use.”
